Donna Hood and Ali Larsen were crowned the Women of Steel at the 6th annual Bank of American Fork Woman of Steel Triathlon and 5K on May 21 after being nominated for overcoming challenges using fitness. Hood completed this year’s triathlon despite having stage four lung cancer, while Larsen coped with her own health problems and the death of her father within the past year.
The state’s only all-female triathlon recognized Hood, Larsen and many of the 900 other participants that have used physical fitness to overcome life-changing obstacles.
“Woman of Steel is one of Bank of American Fork’s flagship sponsorships because we want to honor and support these amazing women,” said Richard Beard, Bank of American Fork president and CEO. “As a locally owned and operated community bank, we want to give back to these women who make such important contributions in our local communities.”
The 6th annual Bank of American Fork Woman of Steel triathlon was held on May 21 at the American Fork Fitness Center. The event, organized by TriUtah, included a 300-meter pool swim, 12.4-mile bike ride and 3-mile run, as well as a 5K. Many of the 900+ participants are new to the athletic circuit.
